Exercise Physiology

Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) are university qualified allied health professionals, who specialise in prescribing exercise for the treatment and management of health conditions. An AEP can support a variety of individuals who might be experiencing chronic and complex health conditions, injuries or disabilities.

You might see an AEP to help prevent, manage or treat a condition and/or to be provided with a structured, evidence based exercise program. We will work with other members of your healthcare team, such as your GP or Physiotherapist, to coordinate care and ensure a well rounded treatment plan.

Benefits of seeing an Exercise Physiologist include:

  • Improved strength, cardiovascular fitness or mobility

  • Prevention and management of chronic disease

  • Improved mental health

  • Improved functional capacity

Examples of individuals who might benefit from seeing an AEP include individuals with:

  • Heart disease, diabetes or obesity

  • Pre or post surgery rehabilitation

  • Chronic musculoskeletal issues, such as arthritis or lower back pain

  • Older adults, for better balance, mobility, strength or independence

  • Neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy or dementia

Exercise Physiologist services are recognised in multiple government health funding schemes, such as Medicare, NDIS, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Workers Compensation and private health.
